Internal consistency estimates (Cronbach's alpha) reported separately for subscales and by grade and gender. Estimates ranged from 0.50 to 0.93.
Validity
The initial item pool was compiled from existing instruments. A second wave of pilot testing was used to look for empirical evidence of redundance (based on inter-item correlations) or lack of discrimination (low variance).
Items were pilot tested using cognitive interviews to remove ambiguous or unclear items.
Principal component analysis (Arthur et al., 2002) was used to determine scale dimensionality.
Relationships between risk and protective factor scales and self-reports of drug abuse and delinquency were in the anticipated direction (Arthur et al., 2002).
